About me

Mr. Williston was raised in a twentieth-century new religious group and has experienced first-hand the benefits that come with living in such a group. But in the early 2000’s, because of his conflict of conscience and widespread false and maligning rumors by the ministry, he separated himself from the group. The traumatic choice affected his family, friendships, career, and health – such that his life since then has been a gratifying recovery from that betrayal.

The Straight Way

Bob Williston, raised in a mellow fundamentalist Christian sect, spoke out in defense of egregiously abused members of the group. That resulted in years of false accusations, harassment, and ostracization; and subsequently failed health, a lost career, and separation from a lifetime social support system.

When he organized a small group of personal friends to gather for a vacation near his home in Nevada, the clergy across the continent warned friends not to attend because what he was organizing, they claimed, was an unconvention for people excommunicated from the church. Even relatives were asked to sign agreements to disassociate themselves from his efforts. He considers that the betrayal of his lifetime.
